Why Malawi?
Malawi is often called “the Warm Heart of Africa” — a reflection of its people’s generosity, resilience, and deep sense of community. Families look out for one another.
Education is deeply valued. Children show up with determination and hope.
And yet, for too many children, hunger and limited access to education still shape what’s possible.
In rural communities, these numbers represent daily tradeoffs families are forced to make between food, school fees, and survival. Children walk long distances to class on empty stomachs. Many leave school not because they lack ability or motivation, but because hunger, cost, and circumstance stand in the way.
And still — families believe in education. Communities show up. Children keep trying.
Malawi is not a place defined by scarcity alone. It is a place rich with resilience, possibility, and heart — where the right support, offered in partnership, can unlock lasting change.
And that is how Encore’s work in Malawi began: through relationships, shared trust, and a community that believed deeply in what its children could become.

Early Interventions Meant to Last

Our Beginning — An Encore of Possibility

In 2025, our founder, Perla Hudson, traveled to rural Malawi to help build a primary school alongside local families. Living in the village, she shared meals, stories, laughter, and daily life with parents, teachers, and children who welcomed her as family.
What she witnessed was both inspiring and heartbreaking: children eager to learn, sitting in dark classrooms, studying on empty stomachs, and leaving school not because they lacked ability — but because hunger and cost stood in the way.
Building a school was only the beginning. The real need was clear: children needed nourishment, opportunity, and sustained support to stay in school and imagine a different future.
Leaving Malawi felt like leaving home. Encore for Humanity was born from the promise to return — and to walk alongside the community for the long term.
Encore for Humanity was never meant to be a short-term intervention or a charity operating from a distance. It grew from real relationships — shaped by listening, shared trust, and a long-term commitment to the children and families we serve.
Our work in Malawi is rooted in partnership with local families, teachers, and community leaders who know their children best. Programs are shaped and carried forward by the people closest to the work, from the women who prepare daily meals to the educators and volunteers who advocate for students to stay in school. This approach ensures dignity, accountability, and long-term impact — not just temporary relief.
An encore means another chance. Another stage on which children can step forward and imagine a future shaped by possibility rather than limitation.
